One of my favorite ways to practice isn't running up and down scales and arpeggios. (although a great exercise in my formative years). I like practicing making MUSIC. Creativity is a muscle, and by putting yourself in a creative musical situation, especially improvisation, is a great way of using all the tools in your toolbox. What's the point of learning an instrument if you don't PLAY.
